History

Amika began as the Peepul Choir at Cross Corners Arts Centre in anticipation of the opening of The Peepul Centre in 2005. The choir was part of an initiative spearheaded by a local councillor.

We were based at the Peepul Centre until becoming independent from Leicester City Council and moving back to Cross Corners in 2007. In 2008, we changed our name to what we call it today, Amika.

The need for a larger rehearsal space prompted us to move to the former Soar Valley Music Centre in June 2010.

In the late 2010s, we moved next door into Claremont Methodist Church in Claremont Street, Belgrave.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we moved to our present location at the Woodgate Resources Centre.
